ABCwools is a family business, run by a mother-daughter duo. At the absolute heart of everything we do is my mother, Neelkamal Chouhan. She has been knitting and crocheting for over 47 years. Honestly, I don't think I've ever seen her sitting still without a hook or needles in her hands.

She is actually a full-time school principal by day, but her passion for crafting is so strong that she still makes time to teach daily crochet classes. She’s so dedicated to this art that she holds a Guinness World Record and was even named Bhaskar Woman of the Year. But to me, and to the people she teaches, she's just the ultimate mentor who loves sharing what she knows.

About five years ago, I (Sanjeevni) stepped in to help her manage ABCwools, and I’ve been running it as CEO ever since. We wanted to build a place where crafters could easily find the materials we actually love using ourselves—like 6-ply cotton, t-shirt yarn, Bon Bon, Brilon acrylic 4-ply, and zari yarn.

But we didn't just want to sell yarn; we wanted to do some good with it. That’s why my mom started Knit for Smiles. It’s our crochet community where we get together to make warm, handmade items for NGOs, old age homes, and our brave soldiers. It’s our way of giving back, one stitch at a time.

We also love passing the craft down. Through our daily classes, we get to see the spark in new artists. Some of our students, like our amazing 10-year-old student Krishaa, are already making beautiful crochet art!
